CONCERNING YOUR CHARACTER
Mr. Geoffrey Winthrop is six and twenty years of age. He was born abroad in the Aquitaine region of France in the year seventeen hundred eighty-six (1786) to Harold and Susan Winthrop of Haverford Park. He has two younger siblings- a brother, James and a sister, Rebecca.
Mr. Winthrop was born into wealth and is an avid social climber. His family is considered gentry and his connections are superior.
Mr. Winthrop's father is a banker, however, due to his recent illness, has been confined to their estate. His mother is deceased. Mr. Winthrop currently resides at Haverford Park.
Appearance:
Mr. Winthrop is a fine Regency gentleman. With a devilish charm and wicked wit, he has earned the infamous 'libertine' status amongst the upper circles of London society. He has magnificent blonde hair (groomed to the latest fashion) and deep blue eyes which have led many a kitchen maid astray. Whilst in London, he dresses in the latest fashions, eager to display his wealth and upbringing to any passerby. His elegant build is often compared to classical Roman statues, but his air of decadence distinguishes him from anything traditional.
If Male:
Mr. Winthrop studied at Eton and he is expected to follow his father into banking. His fortune would be described as excellent, and his rank would be gentleman.
Temperament:
Mr. Winthrop can best be described as a hedonist. He seeks pleasure and beauty above anything else. Akin to the teachings of Lord Byron, Mr. Winthrop is a free thinking man who is morally unrestrained. He often uses his extravagant allowance for licentious parties.
Like his sister, Rebecca, he can be a bit snobbish. He often looks to her for advice regarding possible acquaintances.
However villainously Mr. Winthrop portrays himself, there is always two sides to every coin. In private, Mr. Winthrop is a sensitive man. He longs for the quiet of a country manor and relishes the thought of family life. His personality has been influenced by the trappings of London society and it is up to him to guard what is left of his secret goodness.
History:
Geoffrey was born the eldest child of Harold and Susan Winthrop. The Winthrop couple had traveled to France after their marriage and because of economical pursuits, stayed a couple years longer than expected. Nevertheless, revolutionary rumblings forced them to return to England shortly after Geoffrey's birth. Some say the exciting escape made in Geoffrey's infancy affected his temperament. As a child he was prone to melodramatic tantrums. His father often cursed the child as not being his, attributing Geoffrey's off color humor to his wife's imaginary French paramour.
The arrival of his siblings delighted Geoffrey, as he now had someone to blame for his mischievous doings. Unfortunately, shortly after their arrival, he was sent to Eton for proper education and rarely saw his family. He lived a lonely life away from home, but the correspondence from his sister kept him sane in his isolation. Their bond became stronger with each letter and when he returned home at 18, he was aware of the happenings at Haverford Park thanks to his sister's recounts.
