If Female:
Miss Mayfield enjoys reading, playing the pianoforte, and taking walks. She particularly excels at knitting, playing the pianoforte, and singing. She dislikes dancing, but she likes the social aspects of a ball, so she will dance if asked.
Temperament:
Miss Mayfield could best be described as sensible. She is: sweet and well-mannered, always careful to govern her behavior to please others. Some might say that she lives up to her name, always considering the most prudent course of action in any situation. Yet she is not without humour. She secretly observes and finds amusement in the folly and frivolity of others, and likes to discuss such subjects with her sisters when not in public. When in company, of course, her behavior is always quite proper.
Miss Mayfield enjoys being useful, and will often take control of household situations, when her mother is quite useless. She can arrange a party on short notice, plan a menu for a larger party than expected, and make sure everyone is amused and active. She particularly adores children, and whenever they are present, she is often left in charge of them. She is particularly gifted at calming them down and keeping them out of mischief.
When it comes to gentlemen, Miss Mayfield often becomes shy. Associating with gentlemen her own age is a tricky business, and she prefers to observe and listen, to determine a man's character before speaking to him. She does not know how to flirt, and will need a very charming man to draw her out of her shell.
History:
Miss Mayfield was born in 1792, the second child of William and Mary Mayfield. As a young girl, she was rebellious and wild. Being close to her older brother, she often ran about with him and tried to do the same things he did. But as she got a little older, William Jr was sent off to school, and a governess was hired to teach little Prudence proper behavior. The governess was quite strict, and in time she tamed Miss Prudence's wild ways.
All seemed well, and Miss Mayfield began to grow into a charming, if spirited young lady. But fate conspired to change Miss Mayfield still further. Her beloved father died of a particularly violent case of the influenza, which spread among the family. Miss Prudence herself was the only one not afflicted, and she was the one who nursed the other members of the family. She was with her father when he died, and has never forgotten this. The rest of the family recovered in time, but her mother is still rather sickly and spends much of her time in her room.
Ever since her father's death, Miss Mayfield has done her best to manage the household and to behave as correctly and politely as possible. There is still a touch of the rebel in her, but it will need guidance to re-emerge.
