On this board, as in society, there are numerous rules of behavior to which you should adhere. Please read the following rules before you join, and be sure to govern yourself accordingly.
1. Please behave in an amiable manner. Do not treat other members in an abusive manner, as this is not ladylike or gentlemanlike behavior. This includes all areas of the board, such as the roleplay forums, the out- of-character areas, and the chatter-box. Please treat others with respect, and they will respect you in turn.
2. Please be careful of your language. Jane Austen occasionally had characters who swore, such as John Thorpe or Mr. Price, but she kept such coarse vulgarity to a bare minimum, and also obscured all swear words with a line (such as d___). Although it is not necessary to go quite that far here, we do ask that you keep such language in check. Although Jane Austen would not have understood the term "PG-13", that is the standard we should attempt to keep.
3. Further to the subject of language, I ask that you do your best to use good grammar and spelling. This is an advanced roleplay, and I will expect you to keep to high standards in your writing. I do not expect perfection in your language, but I do expect that you will do the best that you can. Those who commit murder against the English language will be censured.
4. In regards to roleplay, I do not require a minimum word count in your posts; however, it is suggested that you keep your posts at least two paragraphs in length or greater. Take the opportunity to explore your character's thoughts, feelings, and physical actions. You may also describe what is around your character, or the person to whom you are speaking. Most importantly, however, be sure to give your roleplaying partner(s) something to which they may reply.
5. Advertisements existed even in Jane Austen's time, but please be aware that spam advertisements, especially those placed in improper areas of the board, such as the chatter-box, roleplay areas, or PMs, or, indeed, anywhere but the specifically appointed location, will be deleted on sight and those posting them will be banned. Also, please do not post advertisements for websites containing inappropriate materials.
6. Multiple characters are permitted, but be certain that you can handle more than one character. Make sure each character is different in temperament and situation, and please consider portraying male characters, as well as females, because we will need appropriate suitors for our heroines. The secret code for the application is "How the pleasing plague had stolen on him."
7. Please do your best to remain active. I do not expect a high number of posts daily for a board such as this, because every post will require a good deal of concentration. However, please do your best to check in regularly, and if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time, please keep us informed.
8. Do not roleplay other people's characters or manipulate them in any way without discussing it with that person first. This is called "god-modding," and it is not permitted here. You may write NPC (non-played characters) in your posts, if you so choose.
9. Please keep out-of-character materials out of your posts as much as possible. If you do need to say something out-of-character, separate it with parentheses or brackets and keep it at the top of your posts. Or, you may simply use the chatter box to post your thoughts. Also, please do not use big posting templates in your posts, especially if they include very large portraits of your character. These are distracting and confusing, and they detract from your posts. They may also throw off the balance of the board. If you must use one, make sure any images are small and unobtrusive. The optimal size would be 100x100.
10. Please obey the staff, if they ask you to do something, please do it. If they ask you not to do something, please do not do it. Please be respectful and do not abuse or insult the staff members, either, because this will result in serious measures.
Rules are subject to change or alteration at any time, but I will do my best to inform you of any changes.
